Reading of it, we are struck by the many quaint, archaic things in the story: the dress of the two witneses, the stage coaches, the oil lampls, the immediacy of the Napoleons. We have gone far beyond all these things. Have we gone far beyond the relevancy of La Salette? ... Or is there anything here of peculiar and pressing pertinence to our own day, our own situation?
