Apparition

Apparition message

apparition_gardenThese were Mary's first words when she appeared to Maximin Giraud and Melanie Mathieu, two shepherd children, at La Salette in the French Alps, on September 19, 1846.

With rapt attention, the children looked up into Mary's tear-streaked face and listened to her message of reconciliation. They described her as being surrounded by a light that was brighter than the sun, but yet didn't hurt their eyes. They also described a dazzling crucifix on her breast, with a hammer on one side and pincers on the other.

Mary spoke about how people's actions and lifestyles were hurting her son. She spoke about people who cannot swear without bring in my Son's name and about people who don't observe the Sabbath. She pleaded for people to return to her Son to be reconciled to him.

She also encouraged Maximin and Melanie to pray daily. Her closing words were,

"Well, my children, you will make this known to all my people."apparition_assumption

Today the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette continue to make her message known. The year 2003 marked the 151st anniversary of the Founding of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette. Originally founded in 1852 to minister to the pilgrims who came to the mountain of La Salette, the La Salette Missionaries now serve in 21 countries in answer to Mary's command to, make this message known to all my people.

The complete text of Mary's message at La Salette can be found in pamphlets in the Church and the Gift Shop lobby.

There are statues in the Garden of the Apparition, to the right of the Outdoor Chapel, that depict when the children first saw Mary, when she spoke to them, and when she ascended.
